Here is a video of Abhiram demonstrating how a volcano erupts!  He researched the Ring of Fire and used this model that he made to demonstrate lava flowing from a volcano.  This was an independent project that he chose to complete as part of our study of the West. Great Job!

Hi gang!  I have been playing around with my Vine App all morning, trying to figure out a way to share videos with you that are short and fun and I think I may have finally figured it out.  I made many mistakes, but I didn't give up!  I hope it works this time.  If not, I will just keep trying.  Click here to view a video of the snow in my neighborhood this morning.  Leave a comment and let me know if you can view this video.  See you tomorrow!

What do you do on a snowy first day back?  You jump right in with math centers about fractions!  We played fraction games, made posters and did some review work on adding and subtracting decimals to take our minds off the snow outside.  Tonight's math homework is to create a fraction poster just like we did in centers today.

We learned about air pressure and the instrument used to measure air pressure, barometers.  More team work ensued when we built our own barometers with glass jars and balloons.

We are learning about the climate and natural resources of Canada and completed a climate map while watching a Power Point Presentation about Canada.  At the end of the lesson, Mrs. Merten and Mrs. Williams sang the Canadian National Anthem by heart and said that any student who can sing it by heart on the day of the test will get 10 extra bonus points!  That is exciting!  Here it is if you want to give it a shot. :)

Reading logs will be due tomorrow.  In the event of a snow day, I will collect them on Monday.  New logs were sent home today.
Have a great night and I will see you tomorrow!

The speeches for Student Council Representative were wonderful!  The students worked hard preparing and practicing their speech.  I know that it will be a tough decision on Friday because EVERYONE would do a great job. :)

Today we talked about the two parts that make a sentence, a sentence; the who or what and what happened.  This will lead to further discussions about subjects, predicates and paragraph development.  We discussed why it is sometimes difficult for students to construct a complete sentence in today's digital society because of all of the abbreviations and short cuts that we use with phones, iPods and other forms of technology.  We brainstormed a list of common "text language."  How many do you know?  Your child can score your quiz, they know them all!  Leave a comment and let us know how you did!

Hi Gang!  I hope you are enjoying your vacation so far.  It has been hot and so muggy.  I'm getting ready to head north to Canada.  I'm so excited to see some of the places that we learned about this year.  I will be tweeting, so make sure you keep up with the twitter feed on the right.  I'm hoping to strike a yoga pose or two in some of the places I visit.  Which pose would be best? Give me your best suggestion in a comment.  If you forget how to comment, just follow the directions in the gadget on the right.  I also hope to get in a run while I am up there.  I have been reading a great non fiction book all about Quebec and Montreal.  What have you been reading so far?  Let me know.  Happy 4th of July, stay cool!

We learned about the California Gold Rush this week and even had the opportunity to mine for gems ourselves.  What was it like to mine for gems?  Were you excited or nervous?  What were the conditions like for mining and how did they compare to the conditions the original '49ers faced?  What did it feel like when you found a gem?  Leave a comment describing your mining experience.  Follow the directions in the "How to leave a comment," gadget on the left if you need help leaving  the comment.  I can't wait to hear from you!

Matt sure had fun during the blizzard.  I LOVE the Savasana (deep relaxation) pose, though it might get cold pretty quickly! :)

More blizzard photos!  Matthew helped with clean up and then jumped in it!  Kyle had fun with his dog, Maddie.
