A Big Bite

We are ending 2017 on a high note!  We have had a great week finishing our study of Canada and the students are hard at work creating travel brochures about this great country.  We have finished our fiction stories and childhood memory poems.  There are great writers in Room 23.   ðŸ˜€  We worked on building reading stamina in reader's workshop and we are up to thirty minutes of uninterrupted reading!  Great job getting in "the zone," everyone.  We had fun creating crafts, we earned a class reward for great work at Specials and participated in a 4th and 5th grade sing along with Mrs. Mac.  On Friday we worked on holiday themed math problems, enjoyed Party in a Bag, and had our last class meeting of 2017!  Everyone received a surprise that should be useful over the holiday break.  Thank you for all of the gifts, food pantry donations, donations to Answer the Call and well wishes.  Have a wonderful holiday and Happy New Year.  2018, HERE WE COME!!!!!

A Big Bite

It was a great week in Room 23!  We finished the division unit and everyone did a great job on the test.  Keep practicing! We also spent time finising the math games that we have been working on over the past few weeks.  To celebrate the holiday of Hannukah, we read the story of Hannukah and made stained glass menorahs.   In Social Studies we are learning all about Canada and will be making travel brochures in class next week.  We also practiced the partner reading strategy when learning about Canada, it is a great way to learn new information.  Our fiction stories are in the revision phase and will be finalized next week.  We are writing memory poems in poetry workshop and they are AWESOME!!! I can't wait to share them with all of you.  In reader's workshop we are working on building stamina during independent reading and on presenting book talks.  In addition, in lieu of a reading log this week, students will be completing figurative language book with examples of a simile, hyperbole and personification from their independent reading book.  The cold weather has kept us indoors for recess a few times this week.  Hopefully this won't be a pattern!  One week of school left in 2017, it will be a great one!

A Big Bite

We had fun working in expert groups to teach each other about wild weather events this week,  The test went well! Too bad we couldn't get the Kahoot to work!
The Haffenreffer museum came to see us on Monday and we learned all about the Inuit in the Arctic Region of Canada and Alaska.  We played some fun games!  We even go to wear authentic clothing.
We have been working on long division and will take a test on Thursday of the upcoming week.  The study guide has been sent home.  Fiction stories are being drafted and I can't WAIT to read them all!  We are almost finished with the interactive read aloud Little Dog, Lost by Marion Dane Bauer.  I think the students will love how it ends.
It was great to see all of you at conferences this week.  Have a great weekend!  Enjoy the SNOW. :)
