A Big Bite

Happy New Year!  Room 23 is off to a great start in 2020!  We are all reading The Boy, the mole, the fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy.  Each student will find their favorite line from the book and share why it is important to them.  If you have a chance, pick it up from the library and read it.  It is one of the best books I have ever read.
We have started a three month unit on fractions.  Using hands on materials is a great way to explore fraction concepts.  Parents are always welcome to join us for math lessons, just let Mrs. Williams know that you would like to come.  Be ready to participate.

We continue to build community and relationships every day by participating in morning meeting and working cooperatively in groups.  Jailhouse rock was the song we danced to celebrate Elvis' birthday this past week.  It's great to start the day with movement.

Nonfiction research and nonfiction writing are our focus in reader's and writer's workshop.  We have been creating travel brochures about Canada and laying the foundation for research about dogs.

We are wrapping our earth science unit and will begin a unit on animal adaptations this week.  In Social Studies, we will begin out journeys around the United States and this unit will continue through the end of the year.
Our chorus concert is this Thursday and we can't wait to perform for all you.  See you then!!
Mrs. Williams
