A Big Bite

The students in Room 23 have been learning so much the past two weeks.  The biggest highlight was welcoming a new fourth grader to JFK!  We are excited to have Julia in our class and she has fit right in! We have finished the measurement unit in math and have started geometry.  We created a human line plot to display the circumference of each students' head in cm; it was very cool to see the visual!  We have finished our travels to the southeast and have moved on to the Midwest.  Keep practicing those states and capitals.  Mrs. K has created a Quizlet for practice; click here to access the Quizlet.  In reader's workshop, we have been enjoying The One and Only Ivan as our latest interactive read aloud.  We have been observing apes, gorillas and elephants on web cams from various zoos around the country and we even have been observing animals in the wild on different African web cams.  On Monday, we participated in a Skype Classroom with other children around the world to hear Dr. Jane Goodall.  It was short but exciting.  In writer's workshop, we read a story about a seal and now we are writing it from the point of view of the seal.  We should finish before vacation.
Have a great weekend!
