A Big Bite
2017 is off to a great start! We are working on research in reader's workshop. We are focusing on main idea, topics and details in books on dogs and will use these skills as we complete other research projects throughout the year. Many students said that reading was a highlight from the week. Writer's workshop focused on finishing extension activities in the fiction unit. There are several wordless picture books, fantasy stories and "part 2," stories ready for publication. We will be starting essay writing next week! In Poetry workshop, we learned about Robert Frost and wrote free verse poems about weather, in the style of Robert Frost. We even got to listen to Frost recite some of his poems. Click here to listen to The Pasture, and click here to listen to The Road Not Taken. Enjoy!
In Math we have been reviewing multiples and prime and composite numbers as we prepare for the fraction unit which will last for several weeks. We are using a variety of resources, hands on materials and games to master these skills.
We have begun our study of the regions of the United States by learning all about the characteristics of a region. We will start learning about the Northeast next week!
I am looking forward to Chorus concert on Friday! See you there!
