A Big Bite

Over the past two weeks we have been engaged in many new learning opportunities.  We have been showing our thinking in math by using unifix cubes and by drawing diagrams.  We will start patterning next week but keep working on those facts!  We played Kahoot to review for the map test and everyone did a great job.  Now we are learning about Mexico and  have started Spanish lessons on Duolingo.  Last week, The Haffenreffer Museum form Brown University came to JFK and the 4th graders participated in an archaeological dig.  Students learned about the Native Americans who lived in the northeast.  We completed the Puffmobiles and held the annual Puffmobile race.  We learned a great deal about the engineering process and team work. After developing interview questions and conducting research with families, students have been writing paragraphs about their unique qualities and family traditions.  We are also writing list poems and haiku in poetry workshop.  Mr. Popper's Penguins is a classic tale and the students are enjoying the story.  Many students are reading non fiction books about penguins for independent reading.  We continue to build community and relationships, not just during morning meeting, but all day long.  Looking forward to a full week next week!
