A Big Bite

Students at JFK had the opportunity to attend the school store and purchase school supplies today!  All proceeds will be donated to a charity.  There was a slight mishap with one of the squishy toys, but we managed to get it cleaned up!  Thanks for being a good sport, friend!
We are continuing to learn about heroes in reader's workshop and extended our learning by reading some Greek myths.  Greek mythology will play a big role in our word study over the next several weeks.  There will be a student/parent interest group for The Lightning Thief starting some time next week.  If your child chooses to be part of this group you will get to be a part of it too!  Such fun and a great learning experience for all!

We continue to share the books that we love by delivering book talks.  Well done, ladies!
In writer's workshop, students are working in partners to write, "the next chapter," of our interactive read aloud, Snow Treasure.  There are some FANTASTIC ideas out there and we can't wait to share our stories.
We completed several labs in the science room as we studied plant adaptations.  We finished the celery experiment and discussed the observations that we had made with our groups.
On Monday, the Haffeneffer Museum visited fourth graders to help them learn all about the Native Americans of the prairie and the plains.  We held artifacts, played drums, wore authentic regalia and even participated in a Pow Wow.  It was a great way to enhance our study of Native Americans in the United States.  Thanks to the PCC for funding this enrichment opportunity.
We are two thirds of the way through fourth grade.  I am sure that everyone will enjoy the learning experiences that we have left in the last third of the year.  Hopefully, we are all done with snow days.  Fingers crossed!
Mrs. Williams
