A Big Bite

It was a short week for students in Room 23.  We have started a unit on measurement in math, had a mystery Skype visit with 4th graders in Georgia and began a new interactive read loud, The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.  We will be using our skills as scientists to observe apes and other safari animals in the upcoming weeks.  All of our book clubs wrapped up this week and a notice went home about a fun after school event on April 10th.  Writer's workshop has been busy with students focusing on writing stories from different points of view.  We are also finishing rap poems and starting mythology poems.  We have started our travels to the mid west and  are looking forward to another VR lesson with Mrs. Merten next week.  Good times!
In an effort to continue building community in Room 23, we have started "filling a bucket," for a classmate.  Ask your student what this means and who filled their bucket this week.  We are also working on recognizing those instances/triggers that make us feel anxious, scared, nervous and/or silly and how to handle those feelings in order to relax and focus.  We work hard to stay in the green zone.
Have a great weekend and Happy Easter to all of those families who will be celebrating.
Mrs. Williams
