A Big Bite

We started our week with our grade level community meeting.  We played a shoe game to say good morning and it was fun!  Morning meeting is a great way to connect with our friends from other classes and learn all about our week.
Sharing books that we love continues in Room 23.  We have also started to read Snow Treasure, a historical fiction adventure novel. We are making connections to characters, writing summaries and studying the literary technique, cliffhanger.  I love it when I hear, "NOOOOOO, don't stop, at the end of a chapter."  Music to my ears. :)
We participated in World Read Aloud Day with Mrs. Wilmarth's class on Thursday.  We read picture books with second grade buddies and painted pictures of a favorite scene from the book.  Then we worked together on a Google presentation to share with families.  Stay tuned!
Math workshop has centered around fractions; adding and subtracting fractions, mixed numbers and improper fractions.  Everyone is working very hard on these new skills.  There will be a test on Friday.
We are traveling around the northeast as part of our work in Social Studies and on animal adaptations in science.  The content areas are very engaging and give us many opportunities to read and write across the curriculum while learning about the world around us.

Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Williams
