A Big Bite

Good afternoon!

The students continue to learn about fractions and decimals in math.  We have started a new interactive read aloud, The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate and so far, the children love it!  We are writing about heroes in writer’s workshop and have continued word work with more  Latin Roots.  We are learning about immigration in the northeast and the westward expansion of the United States.  We also participated in a webinar with the author Jacqueline Davies about her new book, Sydney and Taylor. It was a great experience.

March Madness reading is in its third week and the students listened to two historical fiction books; Lucky Beans, read by Mrs. Weiss and New Shoes, read by Dr. Ashley.  Last week’s winner was Corduroy!

Picture day is next week and fliers were sent home earlier this week.  Cohort A will have pictures taken on the 22nd and Cohort B will have pictures taken on March 26th.

In anticipation of returning to full, in person learning on Monday, April 5th, I have begun to make slight adjustments to daily routines in order to hit the ground. This week has seen the return of enough desks and chairs to the classrooms for each student to have their own space.  The backpacks may seem a bit lighter!  I understand that there will be a bit of a learning curve for everyone as we adjust to the new routines.  I anticipate keeping Chromebooks in school during the week and not needing to transport them back and forth in backpacks.

Have a great weekend!
