A Big Bite

Good afternoon!

MCAS is done and the final countdown is on!  What a year it has been. :)

We will be starting some enrichment math projects for the last few weeks of school.  Nightly homework will contain a review of the skills that we have learned this year.  The children are LOVING Charlotte’s Web!  They especially enjoy “reader’s theater.”  Ask your child all about it! Writer’s workshop involves individual writing projects and completing some final poems.  We have been studying the southeast and will move on to the Midwest next week.

Stay tuned for details about the “Fourth Grade Country Fair Week,” which will include daily spirit days and fair events for the week of June 14-18.  We have been taking suggestions and ideas from the students and are developing a plan to have the end of this incredible year be memorable for the students. We have requested a donation of individual pies from Table Talk pies, in Worcester, MA.  We are hopeful that this will happen, but if it does not, there will be a day when students can have a pie (any kind: fruit, Whoopie, pizza, etc.) as an additional snack in the afternoon. In lieu of the traditional Tie Dye Tuesday celebration, we are going to have the students decorate a t-shirt for the fair and we are asking that you provide your cold with a t-shirt for this activity.  It does not need to be a new t-shirt as the students will be drawing on them with Sharpies.  Also, we are in need of a few supplies to borrow for the fair activities.  If you have any of these items and would be willing to let us borrow them, we promise that you will get the items back at the end of the week.

 Here are our requests:

Plastic eggs-10

Wooden/Flat  Spoons (to carry the eggs)-5

A Hobby Horse or two

A rocking sheep

Burlap Sacks-4

Thank you in advance for any help that you can give.

A Big Bite

Good afternoon!

Time is flying by!  One week of MCAS down, one to go!  The weather has been fantastic too!

The geometry test was a success and now we are reviewing skills before the MCAS math test next week.  You will notice that the homework will reflect the skills that we are reviewing each day.  We have started Charlotte’s Web in reading and have a plan in the works to celebrate the book during the last full week of school; more to follow.  In writing, students will be setting goals for individual writing projects through the end of the year.  Physics is all finished and we are beginning our journey around the southeastern part of the United States; so much fun!

MCAS dates are as follows:

Math-Wednesday, May 26-1 session

We had such a great time participating in the Special Olympics this past Thursday! Check out some of the pictures.

Juicy Nibble

Good afternoon!

Another full week of 4th grade is in the books!  The students continue to hang in there and give it their all!  Thank you for supporting your student as we continue our journey together.

The students learned how to draw and measure angles with a protractor this week and on Monday we will take a test on all of the math skills that we have learned in the geometry unit.  In reading we have been focusing on short reading passages and independent reading.  We also have been looking at practice MCAS tests in order to prepare the students for the test next week.  We have finished our science unit on physical science and will start to learn about the regions of the United States next week.

Dr. Ashley has requested that on MCAS testing days, the students have two snacks.  One for before the test begins and one for after.  By eating a snack before the test begins, the students should not be hungry in the event that we have to miss our typical snack time because students are working.  Maintaining the integrity of the testing environment is important and stopping midway through for a snack break may disrupt the flow of the test for students.  We will provide students with an extended snack/break when all students have completed the session.  Also, there will not be any homework on the night before or the night of MCAS testing.

MCAS dates are as follows:

ELA-Wednesday, May 19-1 session

Math-Wednesday, May 26-1 session

Also, Special Olympics will take place on Thursday; don't forget your beach towel!

Juicy Nibble

May the 4th be with you!!!! Great job with the costumes and outfits.  Shout out to all of the mom who channeled Princess Leia this morning while helping with hair styles!  The Force is STRONG with this class, though we do tend to lean toward the dark side a bit....😃😄😅😇
