Juicy Nibble

So long fourth graders, hello to fifth grade!  We had a great last week and our final class meeting of the year focused on the high/low of the year and 'betcha didn't know for the summer.  Looks like we have many people traveling!  Have fun and stay safe!
My high for the year was working with this wonderful group of young people, it has been a pleasure!
My low is that I have to say good-bye to them. 😦
My 'betcha didn't know is that we will be taking a family trip to Europe to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Have a wonderful summer vacation, read, relax, relish and repeat!

A Big Bite

Sports Day!

A Big Bite

As Mrs. Merten says, we are always "learning until the last minute!  We started the week with Sports Day, continued with the USA round up which included mining for gems like '49ers, and then participated in The Amazing Race.  We worked in centers to wrap up line designs, non fiction writing and began an enrichment project in geometry.  We finished up the electricity unit with a Kahoot quiz  and then an engineering challenge called "Light Your Way,"  Thanks to Andrew Leenhouts of Gill Engineering for helping us out with our, "hands free light sets."  We are so lucky to have former FHS students volunteer their time to work with the next generation of engineers! We finished the week looking at the new yearbook and talking about how quickly 4th grade has flown by.  This is a very special class and I will treasure them always.
Ask your student about the activities of the past week.  It was an amazing week. :)

Dressing up, just because!  You look lovely!

Nice one, G! #loveit!

Graduation Edition-Part 3

Meghan graduated from Mount Saint Charles yesterday! She was the Salutatorian of her class! Woohoo! She loved to read The Lightning Thief series when she was in 4th grade. Meghan is going to study Economics at Tufts University this fall. #welldone

Poetry, Please!

Here is the poem that I wrote and recited for the children at the Coffee House this morning.  Enjoy!

Just Like You
The fall brings warm days and cool nights and you,
With bright smiles and eager eyes.
Learning how to write a list and how to write freely,
And I start to think,
The world needs more poets like you.

As the cool nights and brilliant sunrises turn days colder and shorter
You start to speak about big ideas.
You rhyme and rap,
And I start to realize,
The world needs more poets like you.

Then the days change again and begin to grow longer and turn warmer,
You express yourselves openly, honestly and thoughtfully,
and in many different forms.
Each with your own strong and individual voice,
And I believe
That the world needs more poets like you.

And now, as you turn away from here,
And toward your next season,
Remember this;
I know that this is true,

The world needs more poets like you.

Reciting at the mic!  Way to go, Ms. A!

A Big Bite

Reciting original poetry by Mr. P and performing poetry in the oral tradition by Mrs. H!  Way to go!

A Big Bite

We started our week with the final visit from the Haffenreffer Museum.  We learned all about the Hopi and had a great time!  Thanks, PCC for providing us with this Enrichment Program.

Several families joined me, Mrs. Merten and Mrs. Greene for an author visit with Jarret Krosoczka!  It was amazing and the ice cream afterward was fun too!  Thank you, Papineni family for my Cake Batter ice cream, it was yummy!

Our concert was a big hit and featured many soloists.  Make sure you check out the Periscope video of I'm Still Standing on the Twitter feed.  Great job, everyone!
The Brownie troop that held a book drive for classrooms at JFK delivered a bag of books to us and there were some pretty cool books in the package.  We love the "How to Draw Cartoons," book.
Our Coffee House celebration was on Friday and it was incredible.  Everyone did a great job at the mic and we shared many laughs.  The parents did a great job too!  Make sure you check out the YouTube videos from this morning.  Thanks to everyone who brought in snacks and drinks for us to enjoy and for everyone who pitched in to help make the morning a success.  We appreciate it very much!

Next week is full of activities like Sports Day on Monday (don't forget sunscreen, hat and extra water), The Amazing Race on Wednesday and Light Your Way on Friday.  We will be finishing units next week and setting goals for the summer.  Enjoy the weekend, it looks like summer is finally here!
