A Big Bite

We made it!  What a hot day to end the school year!  We have had so much fun these past two weeks.  We participated in The Amazing Race on Monday and it was great!  Check out the pictures below.  We were in teams with students from other classes so the pictures are of many fourth graders.  As a class we have read 936 books this year.  That sure is a lot of books! :) Several of us have started "to read," piles for the summer, great job!  We reviewed the goals that we set in September and many of us achieved quite a few of them.  The students have some exciting plans for the summer with trips across New England and the US.  Thanks for a great year and good luck in 5th grade.  Keep up with the blog and comment on any books that you are reading.  Have a great summer!

A Big Bite

Sophie and Vagmi leave for summer vacation, Ava is already gone!

We have spent the last two weeks wrapping up the school year.  We created tessellations in math and worked on multiplication and division facts.  Writer's and reader's workshop will finish this week and our journeys around the United States have ended in the south west region,  Everyone has set a goal to visit the Grand Canyon some day. :)  The electricity unit ended with the "Light your Way, " project.  Mr. Adams returned to JFK to help us with this project.  Each group created a unique hands free flashlight to be used on cave expeditions. They were incredible.  Both events were so much fun!  Next week will be the last week of school and Mrs. W can't believe how quickly the year has gone.  We have " The Amazing Race," on Monday and fun year end activities planned for Tuesday and Wednesday.  Mrs. Richards told us  about summer reading and we all got to pick a new book to read for the summer thanks to the PCC.  Check out the Twitter feed for pictures from Sports Day!

A Big Bite

We enjoyed our last visit with Mrs. Silvia from the Haffenreffer museum on Monday. We learned all about the Hopi of the southwest.  Check out the pictures in the Twitter feed!  We have been busy working on line designs in math and creating our own designs.  In science, we were able to light bulbs using one wire, one bulb and one battery.  We are learning about the southwest in social studies.  It looks like a great place to visit and some of us have been there!  Dylan even took a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon!  We have been busy preparing for the Poetry Coffee House on Tuesday.  We can't wait for our families to see our classroom and hear our readings.  See you then!

A Big Bite

Phew, it sure was hot this week!  Summer is in the air. In math, we have finished our unit on angles and are continuing to work on line designs.Tie Dye Tuesday was a huge success and the shirts look great!
In science we learned about magnetism and did some fun experiments with magnets.
The Haffenreffer museum returns on Monday to kick off our unit on the Southwest.  We have made more progress with our expert pieces in writer's workshop and we are getting ready for the Coffeehouse.  We finished Charlotte's Web and had fun with our own version of reader's theater as part of the interactive read aloud.  We achieved our goal of being a "Black Belt," class in recorder karate!  The concert was great and the puppets were awesome(check out the videos in the post below).  Mrs. Mac and Mrs. Hess really are incredible teachers. :) Here is a link to Mrs. Mac's blog.
The end of the year is full of so many fun and exciting lessons and activities. The class commented this week on how fast the year has gone.  I whole completely agree!
