A Big Bite

Mrs. Merten likes to say that we are "learning until the end," and she is so right!  We finished the last week of school with a STEAM project called "Light your Way," and we were lucky enough to have Mr. Adams return for one more visit to help with the electrical engineering involved in this project.  We had our last grade level community meeting and our mantra for the week was "Relax and Celebrate!"  We had the Blue Ticket auction on the last day and had fun watching the 5th graders play elimination against the teachers.  Mrs. Williams caught some photos of the JFK hawks before school started on Wednesday, it was very cool!  Austin had a great idea for our last closing circle of the year.  Instead of creating a spider web, we created a line design with the string, it was a lot of fun and a great way to extend this math activity into our classroom meeting.  The students expressed their "high points," for the year like; "we did many fun activities," and "I liked Light Your Way."  Also, "I made new friends," and "we had a great class." Some students loved all of the STEM projects that we did with Mrs. Merten's class and others liked the "X" measurement games, the Charlotte's Web plays, have read many books and others said that they had learned a lot.  Thank you to everyone who said that they had a great, amazing, awesome teacher.  YOU ARE ALL GREAT, AMAZING and AWESOME!!!!
Have a wonderful summer, read LOTS of books, eat ice cream and keep up with the blog.  Send me a picture of your summer adventures or write me a note about a book that you have read.  See you in the fall, 5th graders!

A Big Bite

The last full week went by quickly! We had the USA round up where we mined for gems like the '49ers, played USA bingo, learned about the National Parks AND learned about immigration. We had a week long book celebration for Charlotte's Web in which we made a line plot of our county fair snacks, made a working Ferris wheel out of "trash," and watched the cartoon of the book in order to compare it to the story. Thanks to Ella and her aunt (who works at Wegman's) for sharing  the organic grapes that taste like cotton candy, yum! In math, many of us finished the line design project and started working on a geometry project involving pattern blocks; so much fun!  We also sang for Mrs. Toye on Tuesday at the school wide Mrs. Toye Day celebration. We had our last Dance Party Friday and rocked out to the song Celebration! Congratulations to everyone for their hard work in P.E. all year; Mrs. Perry gave out awards on Wednesday! 😃 Mr. Houlihan talked to all of the 4th graders about his work as an electrician and we really enjoyed his presentation. Only 3 more mornings to wake up!
Happy Father's Day to all the dads!

A Big Bite

What a week!!! Sports Day, The Chorus and Recorder concert and The Coffeehouse today!  Thanks for all of the treats and to everyone who sent me pictures of the Coffeehouse!  Thanks to Mrs. Sharma, Mrs. Kilroy and Mrs. O'Brien for sharing pictures with me. Great job at the Mic by Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. Bond.  Make sure you click on the videos at the bottom of the post.  We are in the home stretch now!

Here is a copy of the poem that I wrote for the children, inspired by Adi's linking Haiku.  If you have a video of it, let me know and we can post it here!
