Juicy Nibble
Our Measurement Olympics were a HUGE success today! After our opening ceremonies, we heard the Olympic Theme played on the recorder! The children skated, shot hockey "pucks", threw discuses and the shot put, and even did the luge ~ all while practicing their measurement skills! Thank you to everyone for helping with organizing colored clothing, making shirts and sending in shoe boxes! We are also thankful (and very lucky) to have such wonderful specialist teachers at JFK. Thank you to Mrs. MacMurray, Ms. Doherty, and Mr. Banks for helping with today! Ask your child about all of the mathematics that happened today! Here are a few pictures from our day! Make sure that you check out Mrs. Merten's blog for some photos from the other events.

A Big Bite
We ended our week getting ready for the measurement Olympics on Monday. Thank you to everyone who sent in shoe boxes for our speed skates. I will post pictures of the games on Monday.
Great job on the fraction test everyone!!!! Your hard work paid off. We will continue to work on fractions over the next few weeks. We have made great progress on our essays and the drafts are getting done! We learned about some famous African American poets and will be writing our own rap poems for a rap performance later in March. We are one third of the way through our interactive read aloud and are learning how to write brief chapter summaries. In independent reading, the students are pushing their learning by trying new genres and authors and setting goals for reading progress. We had our first Mystery Skype with Holy Infancy School in Bethlehem, PA on Thursday. The students did very well and we are looking forward to many more Skype visits this year. Ask your child about the 4th grade class in Pennsylvania and about their teacher, it is very interesting! We will be learning about Washington D.C. next week and students will be completing a project on the monuments in school and at home. Students are not expected to work on the project at home over the February vacation in accordance with the district homework policy. More information on the project will be sent home next week.
We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Wednesday with, "Party in a Bag." If your child is distributing Valentine's, please make sure that everyone is included.
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Williams
