 Thank you to the Whalen Family for hosting us for today's family field trip!  The haunted cemetery is great and we loved it!  Thank you for sharing it with us and allowing us the time to explore all of your hidden gems.  The treats were a nice surprise too!  Everyone in Room 23 says, " THANK YOU!!!"

As the sun begins to set on the summer, I hope that you will take some time to enjoy your final vacation days before the school year begins.  Placement letters went home on August 16th and emails to families in Room 23 went home today, August 16th.  Please read the letter I have for you and complete the Flip grid assignment. I am headed to the beach to enjoy the waves and a good book!  I will see you soon!

Suggested Supply List

Dear 4th Grader and family,

We are looking forward to meeting you in August and we wanted to help you get ready for your fourth grade year!  Below is a suggested list of supplies for fourth grade, many of which you can find at home.  Due to the limited space in the desks, we ask that students NOT bring large binders or bulky pencil cases to school.

This is a suggested supply list. Materials will be provided by the school for students who begin the school year without school supplies.

PLEASE CLEARLY LABEL ALL OF YOUR MATERIALS

1 pink eraser or pencil top erasers      

12  #2 pencils      

1 highlighter (any color)       

1 pens (any color)                 

1  lined journal to be used for poetry ~ any type will do       

1 red pocket folder

1 green folder       

1 blue pocket folder       

1 purple pocket folder       

1 yellow pocket folder

1 folder, any color or design for music       

1 pair of scissors                   

1 sharpie marker—BLACK       

3 Expo markers-chisel tip—(Black or dark color, one per term) and something to erase with like an old sock      

1 package of markers or colored pencils-your choice!

1 - box of crayons (24 count)      

2 glue sticks to start the year(these will need to be replaced throughout the year)

1 nylon or canvas pencil bag (SOFT only)- a Ziploc bag works too!     

1 3-subject notebook (wide ruled)

1 pkg. small post-it notes

1 small hand-held pencil sharpener (with attached container for shavings)

Graduation Edition-My 4th graders from 2014-2015

 These seniors were in my 4th grade class during the 2014-2015 school year.  They are a WONDERFUL group of people who are kind, creative and fun to be around.  They have great plans for the future and will do amazing things I am sure!  Go set the world on fire, Ladybugs! I am PROUD of you!

  Michael, Andrew, Ravin, Nick, Lily and Sami all came to Room 23 to talk about life, their future plans and to give advice to the current 4th graders. Check out what they had to say!

A Big Bite

 

March DID come in like a lion and it doesn’t seem to be going out like a lamb just yet.  It’s weather in New England and we just love it!

We started our week with an all school performance from the Ammaya Dance & Drum Group.  We were able to have this wonderful performance as a result of a Town of Franklin Cultural Council grant; it was awesome!

English Language Arts (ELA) MCAS will be next Wednesday and Thursday.  The work that we do all year prepares us for the MCAS but we have spent some time looking at old tests so that the students will be familiar with the format and the different types of questions that may be asked.  We are also continuing to read The Elephant in the Room which the students love.  If you haven’t read it you should give it a try; so many good lessons to learn from this book! 

The final speech of the year was a success!  It has been so rewarding to see each student grow in the area of public speaking.  This is such a challenging skill and the students have done very well with it.  We are proud of their progress!

We have started to learn about geometry with a focus on lines, segments and rays this week. We will continue to learn more about angles in the upcoming week. 

The children are enjoying learning about our great nation by learning all about the southeast.  Be careful, there may be a road trip in your future!
