You're It
Who likes to be It? In Room 23, EVERYONE wants to be It! During the school year, we will be celebrating individual students each week by recognizing their efforts, accomplishments and citizenship as members of Room 23. The celebration generally will take place at our end of the week meeting on Friday, but may take place at any other time. Each student will be chosen at least once, but may be chosen a second time based on individual efforts. Always put forth your best because you never know if you may get caught being, "It!" At our class meeting we will brainstorm hashtags that are personalized to each student. Congratulations to our first, "It!" #takeabow! #happykid
A Big Bite
It was another great week in room 23!We are continuing to build community and establish routines both academically and socially. We focused on math, reading and writing this week and will continue to do so next week. We experienced our first "Creative Arts Friday," and it was a big hit. Check out the pictures of the spaghetti and marshmallow challenge that the students completed with Mrs. E Williams. In poetry workshop we learned about John Keats and his poem, Song About Myself. We began writing Biopoems and should finish next week.
Don't miss our live "Tweet," of the first Dance Party Friday. So much fun.
We started our week with our first grade level community meeting. Our mantra for the week was "Getting to Know You!" We even learned some new yoga poses. 😂
We will have a quiz on place value on Wednesday. Check out these videos as a way to prepare for the quiz.

National Parks Program:
Visiting National Parks is one of my favorite things to do and there are plenty to see here in Massachusetts and the New England area. Once again, this year, the government has announced a program for fourth graders called "Every Kid in a Park". This initiative is to encourage fourth graders to visit the National Parks FREE OF CHARGE! All fourth graders in the 2017-2018 school year. The pass will allow the student, family members under 16 and three adults into "for fee," National Parks across the country for free! So exciting. Let me know if you sign up and if you use the pass. Information about this program can be found here.
Ask your student about their week, we sure did laugh a lot and we LEARNED A LOT!
Have a great weekend,
Mrs, Williams

A Big Bite
What an amazing first week of school! We have spent the last three days getting to know one another through team building exercises, creating a class constitution, class meetings and thoughtful discussions. We started math, reading and writing and focused a great deal on teamwork. Click here to listen to a video that Mrs. Merten made of us speaking about our feelings about fourth grade at the end of the week! We even had our first 4th grade community meeting. Check it out on the Twitter feed. Sign up to be a Twitter follower and then you can see us in action, we love to live Tweet!
Students, please click this link to complete our first class survey. Have fun!
Here are some pictures from this past week. Ask your student to tell you all about them, but first, can you find your student's shoes? Good luck!
