A Big Bite

We started the week with another snow day, let's hope that is the last one! Though it was a short week, Tuesday got us rolling with Valentine's Day celebrations.  The homemade Valentine boxes were very creative.💗  In math we are working on multiplying fractions and on making connections with fractions and decimals. These are new skills for everyone, so we are taking our time to make sure that the concepts are mastered.  We continued our travels around the southeast by learning about some unique land forms, the natural resources and some important people of the southeast.  We will finish our travels in this region after vacation and will take an open book/open notes test later in the week.  The study guide was sent home two weeks ago.  The Washington D.C. projects were very informative and several students completed the extra credit  by building a model of a monument. They were very creative and made from some very interesting materials.  Nicely done! Many students have started to type the final copy of their essays and have almost finished the snowflake poems.  In poetry workshop we discussed famous African American poets and learned how to write a rap poem.  We will continue this work after vacation.  Thursday was World Read Aloud Day and we celebrated with Mrs. Wilmarth's class.  Many of us remember participating tin this activity as 2nd graders so it was fun to be the, "big kid," this time.  Make sure that you  click here to take a look at the slide show that the students created to celebrate their picture book.  Tech workshop and Project Based Learning was a hit on Friday.
From conversations at morning meeting and end of the week meeting, it sounds like there are many fun activities planned for vacation like; skiing, bowling, Florida, hotel stays, sports tournaments, baking and READING!!!  Have a relaxing break!  See you in a week.
